May 3 to 13, 2020


Day 1 - Arrive Albuquerque. Accessible transfer to hotel. Get acquainted dinner. Stay one night.

Day 2 - Travel to Carlsbad, NM, passing through a variety of desert and low mountain country, including the resort town of Ruidoso, NM. Stay two nights.

Day 3 - Carlsbad Caverns is a series of enormous rooms making up one of the world's largest caves, part of a network of more than 100 known caves within the Park. Our time will be spent in the 8-acre Big Room. Weather permitting, we'll watch the thousands, perhaps millions, of bats emerge at dusk from the special amphitheater at the natural cave entrance.

Day 4 - Return north to Santa Fe today, passing through Roswell, NM, site of an alleged 1947 UFO crash. Stay two nights.

Day 5 - Explore Santa Fe, founded as a Spanish colony in 1610. You will most certainly enjoy all you see and experience in this over 400 year old city. At its heart is the traditional Plaza, around and near which we'll spend most of our time, but a short trip to the Shidoni Gallery and Sculpture Gardens is on the plate.

Day 6 - We'll travel through beautiful country to the 4-corners region (where Utah, Colorado, Arizona & New Mexico meet) and Colorado today, on our approach to Mesa Verde. Stay in Mesa Verde National Park two nights.

Day 7 - Enter Mesa Verde National Park, one of the nation's major archaeological preserves, consisting of more than 4,000 archaeological sites and 600 cliff dwellings of the Ancestral Puebloan culture. An altogether captivating park!

Day 8 - We drive northerly today to Moab, Utah. There will be an especially interesting stop at Newspaper Rock, in Canyonlands National Park, which is a wall of ancient petroglyphs and pictographs, two forms of ancient rock art. Stay two nights

 

Day 9 - Arches National Park, near Moab, contains the largest number of natural stone arches in the country. Along with over 1,800 arches are many redrock canyons, spires, fins and balancing rocks to photograph.

Day 10 - We're off to Salt Lake City, traveling, through an interesting and beautiful variety of country, from red rocks to an alpine pass. Farewell dinner.

Day 11 - Depart from the West today, with unforgettable memories.
